Activating a License
When you purchase a GENESIS license, you receive an email with one or more product registration numbers (P Numbers) and a customer key. You need these numbers when activating your license. By activating your license, you are making your entitlements available for GENESIS to use.
The product registration number identifies a complete, preconfigured GENESIS system instance. You don't need to enter any additional P Numbers to configure the system because the configuration has already been done during the purchasing process. This is the product registration number for the base node. If you purchase additional nodes, you will receive a P Number for each additional node that you purchase. The P Number for an additional node is basically the base node's product name plus "-XTR."
Each server needs a separate, secure license file. This means that you must license each product registration number one at a time, on the server that it will be used on. You must always license the base node first because it's the parent of the additional nodes. After the base node has been licensed, you can license the additional nodes.
When you activate a license, you choose what it is bound to:
-
A software license is bound to the site code of the server, which is derived from its hardware and operating system identity. The license stays on that server.
-
A USB security key license is bound to a YubiKey that you plug into the server. The license runs on whichever computer holds the license file and has the key plugged in.
