Moving a USB Security Key License to Another System

Because a USB security key license is tied to the key rather than to a computer, you move it to another GENESIS system simply by moving the key. There is no need to kill the license and reactivate it, as you would when transferring a software license.

The target computer needs a local copy of the license file, and it must have GENESIS installed with the YubiKey Utilities component. Once the license file is in place, plugging in the key licenses that computer.

Both computers can keep a copy of the same license file. Only the computer that has the key plugged in is licensed; the other returns to demo mode.

To move a USB security key license to another system:

  1. On the target computer, confirm that the license file (.jws) is present in C:\ProgramData\ICONICS\11\License. If it is not, copy the license file from the current computer into that folder on the target computer.

  2. Unplug the YubiKey from the current computer. That computer returns to demo mode.

  3. Plug the YubiKey into the target computer. GENESIS on the target computer is licensed automatically with the key's entitlements.

  4. Open the License Monitor on the target computer to confirm that the license is active.
