Configuring SMS/Text Notifications

In GENESIS, the GSM Short Messaging Service (SMS) is used for outgoing messages that are sent through Bridging or Connected Field Services. It also provides support for outgoing messages triggered by alarm or event subscriptions.

The basic SMS/Text service does not support acknowledging alarms via SMS. To acknowledge alarms via SMS, use Alert Sierra Service, Azure Communication Services, or Vonage Service together with Connected Field Services or Bridging.

To enable using text messages via the GSM SMS provider for alert notifications, you need to create and configure an SMS/Text node in Workbench.

To configure an SMS/Text node:

  1. Open Workbench and in Project Explorer, expand your project > Alarms and Notifications > Alert Notifications.
  2. Right-click SMS/Text Nodes and select Add SMS/Text Node. The NewSMS/TextNode dialog opens.
  3. In Name, enter a unique name of the configuration.
  4. Configure the Hardware and Data tab settings. Learn more
  5. Configure the message settings. Learn more
  6. Configure alarm subscriptions. Learn more
  7. When finished, restart the GENESIS Alert Notifications Point Manager service.
