Adding Causes and Symptoms to a Diagnostic Model

The Fault Symptoms/Causes Diagnostics Matrix allows you to enter a list of Diagnostic Symptoms of equipment failures or abnormal operating conditions and Possible Causes to perform alarm analysis and diagnostics to determine the root cause, or a limited set of possible causes, that lead to the appearance of specific alarms—or faults.

To add causes and symptoms to a diagnostic model:

1. To add a cause, click to open the dialogue and click . Give the cause a unique Name. You can add more causes in the same dialogue by hitting Enter and clicking .

   Delete a cause by right-clicking it and selecting Delete Item. Click OK to close the dialogue.

2. To add a symptom, click and repeat the same process as in step 1. The newly added items appear in the Matrix.

3. Double-click into a cell and enter a numeric value corresponding between a selected symptom and cause.

   

   As you continue to enter numeric values into the cells, Fault Detection automatically calculates the percentage of likelihood that the cause in a specific row is the reason for the symptom in that column.

4. Select Apply and continue making changes or select Apply & Close.
