BACnet Conformance and Certification

GENESIS is a listed and certified BACnet product. It has been tested by a recognized BACnet testing organization and is published in the BTL Listing maintained by BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL), the testing and certification body of BACnet International. You can view the listing at BTL Listing of Tested Products.

Independent certification matters when you specify or deliver a building management system. Many projects require evidence that every BACnet product on the network conforms to the BACnet standard, and some regions require a certificate as part of the project submittal. The listing and certificate provide evidence for the BACnet data supplied by the BACnet Point Manager.

Listing and Certificate Details

The following table summarizes the certification held by GENESIS.

March 31, 2031

The BTL Listing document, the BACnet Conformance Certificate, and the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) are all published on the listing page and can be downloaded for inclusion in a submittal.

The BACnet Point Manager is designed for ANSI/ASHRAE 135-2020, BACnet Protocol Revision 24, and it conforms to Protocol Revision 19. Certification is granted against the revision the product conforms to, so the listing and the certificate refer to Revision 19.

B-AWS Device Profile

A BACnet device profile is a standardized set of capabilities defined in Annex L of the BACnet specification.

GENESIS is certified as a BACnet Advanced Operator Workstation (B-AWS), the most capable of the operator workstation profiles. A B-AWS is expected to present data from other devices on the network, display and acknowledge alarms, view and modify schedules and calendars, retrieve and display trend data, and perform device management functions such as time synchronization and backup and restore. GENESIS performs these functions as a client to the BACnet devices that act as servers. Learn more

Supported Interoperability Building Blocks

A BACnet Interoperability Building Block (BIBB) is a named unit of functionality defined in Annex K of the BACnet specification. Each BIBB pairs a service with the role the device plays: the A suffix marks the client side of the exchange, and the B suffix marks the server side. Because GENESIS is an operator workstation, it supports mainly A-side BIBBs, along with the B-side BIBBs it needs to answer requests that other devices make of it.

The following table lists the BIBBs covered by the listing, grouped by interoperability area.

Data Link and Object Support

The listing records the data link options, object types, and character sets that were tested.

  • Data link layer options—BACnet/IP (Annex J), including operation as a BBMD and registration as a foreign device, and BACnet/IP over DIX Ethernet. Learn more

  • Object types—Device and Network Port. These are the object types that the BACnet channel exposes as a device of its own on the network. GENESIS reads and writes the full range of object types supported by the devices it connects to, which is a separate matter from the object types it presents. Learn more

  • Character sets—ISO 10646 (UTF-8), ISO 10646 (UCS-2), ISO 8859-1, and IBM/Microsoft DBCS.

Certification covers BACnet/IP communication. BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) is supported by the BACnet Point Manager but is not part of the tested data link options in this listing. Learn more
