Setting Up Azure Communication Services

Azure Communication Services (ACS) provides support for outgoing text messages and emails. It also supports acknowledging notifications via SMS through Bridging or Connected Field Services. It integrates with the GENESIS WebAPI Service for the acknowledgment support.

Acknowledgment over email is currently not supported.

Before you can send SMS or email using Azure Communication Services, you must configure the ACS credentials in Workbench. To do that, you need to set up the following prerequisites:

  • An Azure account with an active subscription. Learn more
  • An active Azure Communication Services resource. Learn more
  • Connection strings from the Communication Services resource. Learn more
  • For SMS: A phone number provisioned from Azure. You can purchase a number with the capability to send and receive SMS, or to send SMS only. Learn more

  • For Email: Email Communication Service resources created through the Azure portal. Learn more
    • An Azure Managed Domain or custom domain for sending emails. Advantages and disadvantages of each are mentioned here.

If you are sub-domaining your custom domain, the selectors for SPF, DKIM and DKIM2 will vary, and the portal will not provide the default values. Learn more
    • Connection of the domain to Azure Communication Service. Learn more
    • A sender email address. Learn more
