Running Multimedia Agents on Remote Nodes

AlarmWorX64 Multimedia lets you send out alarm notifications using agents. Some agents send notifications to computer monitors, which means it may be necessary for the agent to send notifications to a different computer on the network. The Multimedia agents that do this are:

In order to configure these agents properly, it is important that you understand a few key pieces of information so you can get the agents up and running. This topic describes the requirements for configuring your machines so that agents can run on remote nodes, which are:

Making sure agents are installed on the remote servers
Configuring agents properly on the server
Making sure permissions are set correctly

Make Sure Agents Are Installed on the Remote Servers

On the remote machine, you will need to install the agents in which you want to use. This should be as simple as putting your GENESIS64 Installation disk in the targeted machine, and choose the AlarmWorX64 Multimedia option on the default installation screen and use the custom setting to install the agents that you need.

How to Configure Agents on the Server

Once an agent is installed on the remote computer, you can configure it on the server so that it displays alarm notifications on the remote machine. When you configure the agent in the Workbench, in the AlarmWorX64 Multimedia Configurator, open the Configuration folder and expand Multimedia Agent. Then double-click the type of agent: Popup, Marquee Software Emulation, or Sound/Text to Speech. Then configure the agent. To configure the agent to work on a remote machine, you simply specify the remote computer' name or IP address in the Node field of the agent configuration form.

Once you have properly configured a multimedia agent, you can click the Test button to confirm that the agent comes up on the remote computer with a default test message.

Permissions

If the user running the AlarmWorX64 Multimedia server does not have proper DCOM permissions on the targeted remote machine, the agent will not launch. Make sure DCOM permissions are set as follows:

If multimedia server and the target machine where the agent should run are in the same domain, use the same domain user to run both the multimedia server and the agent. Make sure this domain user has full default Access and Launch and Activation permissions, and set the agent to use the default DCOM permissions.
If the multimedia server and the target machine are in a workgroup, then create a user on both machines using the same name and password. This user should be used for running the multimedia server and agents and must have all default DCOM permissions.

Also, most AlarmWorX64 Multimedia agents must have full permissions on the system to run. Therefore, you will need to turn off UAC on the Multimedia server as well as on the client computers that run the agents.
