Creating a Direct Connection

A direct connection is configured on the client only (the computer reading the data).

The server we are connecting to that provides the data will be referred to as the target server. The target server does not need to be configured, other than adding a certificate in the case of a secured connection.

Follow these steps to create a direct connection:

  1. On the client, in Workbench, in the Project Explorer, go to Servers and Redundancy > Server Connections.
  2. Under Connections, select Click here to add new item.
  3. Fill in the Connection Settings form.

    1. Address: The IP address, computer name, or DNS name of the target server.
    2. Select Create Direct Connection.
    3. We recommend using a secured (HTTPS) connection, which requires a valid certificate.
    4. If security is enabled on the target server, do one of the following:
      1. If both the source and the target servers are in the same active directory domain, set Client Authentication to Integrated Windows Authentication.

      2. If the two servers are not in the same domain, check Use Credentials and enter the username and password of a user that exists in the target server's FrameWorX security.
