Discovering Devices by Sending Who-Is

When you want to identify the devices on a BACnet network, you can discover them by sending a Who-Is broadcast request to the networks of the selected channel.

To discover devices by sending a Who-Is message:

1. Open Workbench and in the Project Explorer pane, expand your project > Data Connectivity > BACnet > Channels.
2. Right-click the desired channel and select Send Who-Is.
3. In the Send Who-Is dialog in Low Limit and High Limit, specify the range of the device ID numbers to be searched.
4. In Wait Time, specify how long the sending device will wait for the I-Am replies.

5. Click Send Who-Is. When the discovery finishes, the list of devices is displayed in the Results section.
