Commands in Assets

Commands in Assets is a core feature that brings interactivity and automation to the system’s asset hierarchy. Essentially, commands allow you to perform predefined actions on assets, ranging from navigating to different displays, controlling equipment, triggering alarms, or even sending data to external systems.

At its heart, Assets is designed to represent the real-world assets of a company in a digital hierarchy. Assets in this hierarchy, such as machinery, buildings, or even entire production lines, can be managed, monitored, and controlled through various actions. The commands tie into this structure, enabling you to perform actions directly from the asset view. For instance, clicking a machine in the Asset Navigator can execute a command to display a real-time status report, start or stop the equipment, or trigger alerts based on specific criteria.

Configuring Commands

The configuration takes place in Workbench, where you can define commands for individual assets. The process involves selecting the asset, specifying the action to be triggered by the command, and determining any parameters or conditions needed for execution.

One of the significant advantages of commands in Assets is their flexibility. You can apply the commands across different layers of the asset hierarchy, from a small-scale equipment control to enterprise-wide actions. For instance, a command might simply navigate to a different display when triggered, but it could also activate more complex operations like adjusting operational parameters based on real-time data. These configurations allow commands to handle both simple and advanced workflows within the system.

Invoking Commands

You can invoke asset commands through the Asset Navigator control in GraphWorX or in WebHMI, where you access the commands by interacting with the visual representation of the assets. For example, right-clicking an asset in the tree can reveal a drop-down list from which commands can be executed.
