Unsubscribing from Twilio Notifications

When unsubscribing or resubscribing to Twilio notifications, you have various options that depend on the type of setting in GENESIS— outgoing-only or both outgoing and incoming. With the outgoing-only setup, you can receive notifications, but acknowledgment (replying to the notifications) is not configured.

To unsubscribe from receiving notifications (the outgoing-only setup):

  • Respond to the Twilio phone number with stop, unsubscribe, or end to unsubscribe from Twilio notifications.
  • To resubscribe to receiving Twilio notifications, send subscribe or start to the Twilio phone number.

To unsubscribe from receiving and replying to notifications:

  • Via SMS: Respond to the Twilio phone number with STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, REVOKE, OPTOUT, or QUIT to be unsubscribed from Twilio notifications from Twilio's end. If the Twilio plugin in the GENESIS Web API Service is up and running, your number is also added to the ALERT_DeniedNumbers table in GENESIS, and further messages to this number are no longer sent.
  • Via Text-to-Speech: If the Twilio plugin in the GENESIS Web API Service is up and running, press * on the voice call when prompted. Your number will be added to the ALERT_DeniedNumbers table in GENESIS, and notifications to this number are no longer sent.
  • To resubscribe, send START, YES, or UNSTOP to the Twilio phone number to start receiving notifications again. If the Twilio plugin in the GENESIS Web API Service is up and running, your number is automatically removed from the ALERT_DeniedNumbers table in GENESIS, and notifications start going out.
  • You can manually add or remove a number from the ALERT_DeniedNumbers table to disable or enable sending notifications to that number. However, if you have unsubscribed or resubscribed by sending a text message to the Twilio number, you still need to restart or stop the Twilio subscription by sending an SMS with one of the keywords to Twilio from your number.
  • Unsubscribing and resubscribing apply to all modes of notifications, which means that if you unsubscribe via Text-to-Speech, you are also unsubscribed from SMS and WhatsApp notifications, and similarly for unsubscribing or resubscribing via other modes of Twilio communication.
