About Assets
Assets provide a hierarchical method for cataloging your organization's physical structures, such as buildings, business units, and related machinery, equipment, and production lines that require performance and optimization monitoring. Essentially, assets help in visualizing both simple and complex systems.
For the Start-Up Guide, we will first manually create the asset structure for the Tank Farm Management System (TFMS). However, when dealing with a more complex system with 100 or 1,000 devices, the best practice is to use the Bulk Asset Configurator utility. It is the most effective method for updating and importing all your equipment assets into GENESIS. You will have the opportunity to use the Bulk Asset Configurator after configuring the TFMS asset structure.
The Bulk Asset Configurator can alleviate issues you might face by manually adding information. For example:
- What if you realize you must collect additional properties for each tank, or your organization acquired another TFMS location?
- What if you needed to modify your tank properties' historical data or alarm settings?
- What if, after manually creating 100 tanks, you realize you had misspelled the name of the Density property as "Destiny"?
These examples could take hours, days, or weeks to configure or correct.
