Uninstalling GENESIS
It is important to correctly uninstall any previous versions of GENESIS before installing a new version. If you start the installation with another GENESIS system still present, you will be prompted to uninstall it before the installation process can continue.
To uninstall GENESIS:
- In the Windows search box, enter remove and open Add or Remove Programs with administrator privileges.
- Select the currently installed GENESIS version from the list of applications and click Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall the product as usual. The dialog may vary depending on the version of your operating system and the version of GENESIS that you are uninstalling.
- After the process finishes, check if the ICONICS folder has been removed from the GENESIS installation folder (the default location is <SystemDrive>:\Program Files.) Keep the folder if you are planning to use the GENESIS Version 11 Upgrade Utility. It may contain parts of the system that you can migrate to the new installation. If you want a clean new installation, delete the folder.
-
(Optional) If you are sure that you do not want to use any customized settings or data such as configuration files and GraphWorX displays in the new installation, delete the ICONICS folder from <SystemDrive>:\ProgramData.
If you decide to permanently delete the databases in step 5, make sure you also delete the <SystemDrive>:\ProgramData\ICONICS folder to prevent possible issues during the next GENESIS installation.
-
(Optional) Connect to the SQL Server and permanently delete the GENESIS databases.
This is an irreversible step so make sure you do not want to use the databases anymore. We recommend you back up each database before deleting it.
- In the Windows search box, enter ssms and open SQL Server Management Studio with administrator privileges. If a Windows dialog appears, click Yes.
- In the SQL Server dialog, select the desired server and user, and then click Connect.
- In the left pane in Object Explorer, expand the Databases node and do the following steps for the IcoSetup database, and then for the IcoUnifiedConfig database.
- (Optional but recommended) Create the database backup.
- Right-click the desired database, hover over Tasks, and select Back Up.
- In the Destination section, confirm that the path for your backup is correct. If you need to change the path, select Remove to remove the existing path, and then Add to select a new path. Use next to the File name field to navigate to a specific location, and then click OK.
- Click OK to back up your database. For more details about the backup options, click the Help button on the top ribbon to display the Microsoft SQL Server online Help.
- Right-click the desired database and select Delete.
- Click OK to permanently delete the database.
- Restart the machine.
Uninstalling GENESIS does not remove the Microsoft SQL Server that was installed with it. If needed, you must uninstall it separately. Learn how
