Distributing or Sharing a License

If your license includes the license sharing entitlement, the entitlements on that license can be used by multiple servers.

A server does not need the license sharing entitlement to share its license with clients, only with other servers. Clients will use the entitlements from their designated FrameWorX server.

Clients are applications or browsers that do not run their own FrameWorX server. A computer running FrameWorX Server is considered a server.

The shared license must have enough server entitlements to cover all servers sharing that license. If there are not enough server entitlements, the last server to connect to the license server will not be able to get the entitlements it needs and may have some or all of its functionality disabled.

To distribute a license among two or more servers:

  1. Activate the license to one server. This will be referred to as the license server.

  2. If you plan to use a pair of redundant license servers, activate the second license to a second server. These will be the primary and secondary license servers.

  3. On each other server, open Platform Services Configuration and go to the license tab.

  4. Set the license location to remote license and fill in the name or IP address of the license servers. If you have only one license server, fill in the primary licensing server and leave the secondary licensing server blank.

Once these changes have been made, the license servers will share their entitlement with the other servers.
