Using the Diagnostics Tab of the License Viewer

The diagnostics tab of the license viewer shows which client sessions are using what entitlements and how many. This tab can be ignored unless you are troubleshooting an issue.

The columns show this information:

  • Name - The client name is presented differently based on how the entitlement is assigned:

    Entitlement Assignment Name Format Description
By computer Name The name of the computer using this entitlement.
By Windows session Name:SessionNo:Username The computer name, Windows session number, and Windows username of the session using this entitlement.
    By browser session Name:SessionNo:Username/HTML5Identifier

The computer name, Windows session number, and Windows username of the session running the HTML5 server, followed by a random identifier of the HTML5 browser session or app session (for MobileHMI and KPIWorX apps) using the entitlement.

The license monitor cannot display the computer name running the browser session.

  • Feature - The name of the entitlement being used.

  • In Use Standard - The amount of this entitlement in use. This will be 1 for most entitlements.

Entitlements in Red

If an entitlement appears in red, this means a client requested this entitlement and was denied. The In Use Standard value for these rows will be zero.

Not every red item in the diagnostics tab represents an issue. Some applications may request a feature to see if it’s available, and if not, they will simply not use that feature.

Red items are removed from the diagnostics tab daily at midnight.

If you are having trouble with a feature and you suspect a licensing issue, you can check the diagnostics tab to see if the request has shown up in red. If so, that means all those entitlements are in use, so the latest request was denied. Check the rest of the diagnostics tab to see what else is using that same entitlement.

Example

Assume your alarm server on Server1 is not producing alarms and you suspect a licensing issue. You have one AlarmWorX64 Servers & Hyper Alarm Servers entitlement in your license.

You check the diagnostics tab and filter the Feature column for AlarmWorX64 Servers & Hyper Alarm Servers. You see these results:

Name Feature In Use Standard
Server1 AlarmWorX64 Servers & Hyper Alarm Servers 0
Server2 AlarmWorX64 Servers & Hyper Alarm Servers 1

The red row for Server1 indicates that server tried to use this entitlement and was denied. This confirms that the reason it's not working is due to the license.

The row for Server2 is in black and showing 1 entitlement in use. This means Server2 is using your one alarm server entitlement.

Now that you've identified the issue, you have several ways to resolve it:

  • Stop the alarm server on Server2 to free the entitlement.

  • Direct Server2 to get its license from another license server that has an available entitlement.

  • Add another entitlement to this license so both Server1 and Server2 can use it at the same time.
