License Durations

Licenses can be perpetual, time-limited, or subscription. This is set when the license is purchased.

Perpetual

Perpetual licenses have no time limit or expiration.

Time-Limited

Time-limited licenses have a fixed duration. Once that duration has passed, the license will be considered expired. An expired license will provide no tags, clients, or features.

The duration starts when the license is first activated. For example, if you were given a trial license on May 1st that is good for 30 days and you activate it on June 1st, it will expire on July 1st.

There is no limit on how long you can wait before activating a time-limited license, but as soon as the license is activated the first time the expiration date will be set. It cannot be changed after that point.

Deactivating or transferring a license does not affect the expiration date. Using the previous example, if you activated your license on June 1st, deactivated it on June 15th, and then reactivated it on June 20th, it would still expire on July 1st. The fact that it was deactivated for 5 days does not affect the expiration date.

Time-limited licenses are most often used for trials and the system integrator program.

Subscription

Subscription licenses are paid for via ongoing subscription, usually on a monthly or yearly basis.

If the subscription ends, the license will be considered expired. An expired license will provide no tags, clients, or features.

Subscription licenses must use the cloud format.
